In the world of entrepreneurship, breakthrough ideas often emerge from unexpected places. For Jeff Schwerdt, that place was the cockpit of an F-16 fighter jet. Today, the former Air Force instructor pilot leads Reviewly.ai, an AI-powered Google review automation platform serving thousands of businesses across more than 100 countries. His journey from high-speed aerial missions to building cutting-edge SaaS technology represents a remarkable story of resilience, reinvention, and disciplined leadership.

Jeff’s innovation lies in a simple but powerful philosophy: technology should meet business owners where they actually work. Rather than forcing entrepreneurs to navigate complex dashboards, Reviewly.ai allows businesses to manage reviews directly from their phones through simple SMS prompts and AI-generated responses. This shift is quietly redefining how companies interact with customers online.
A Dream Born in the Sky
Jeff Schwerdt’s fascination with aviation began early. As a child, a single ultralight flight with his grandfather sparked an obsession that never faded.
“The first time I ever flew in something small was an ultralight ride my grandfather took me on during an RV trip,” Jeff recalls. “I didn’t fly again until I was 16 or 17, but the interest never left. I wanted military jets. I wanted to go fast and do something bigger than normal.”

By high school, Jeff was already balancing demanding academics, competitive athletics, a job, and flight training. Encouraged by his mother, who helped support his early training, he committed himself completely to the goal of becoming a fighter pilot.
That determination led him to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he earned a full-ride scholarship in aerospace engineering. His mindset was clear from the start.
“It wasn’t reckless,” he says. “It was commitment.”
Mission Leadership in the Air Force
Jeff’s military career soon placed him among the elite ranks of F-16 fighter pilots. Over time, he logged nearly 900 flight hours, becoming both a flight lead and instructor pilot.
As a flight lead, his responsibilities extended beyond personal performance. He was accountable for the success and safety of multiple aircraft and their crews during complex missions.
“My mindset shifted from ‘solve it for me’ to ‘solve it for the team,’” Jeff explains. “The objective was always 100 percent mission success and everyone getting home.”
Later, when he became an instructor pilot, his leadership philosophy deepened even further. A mentor in the Air Force reframed his mission in a way that would shape his future career.
“It’s not about proving you’re the best,” his director of operations told him. “It’s about elevating everyone else.”
A Sudden End to the Cockpit
On July 27, 2007, Jeff climbed into the back seat of an F-16D for what would unknowingly become his final flight.
A degenerative spinal condition had been quietly worsening. An MRI revealed a severely damaged L5-S1 disc, requiring surgery. After the procedure failed and the disc slipped again, doctors delivered devastating news. A second surgery could potentially leave him in a wheelchair.
Flying was no longer an option.
“For years, my identity was simple,” Jeff reflects. “I was an F-16 instructor pilot. That was the mission. Suddenly there was no cockpit, no mission, no blueprint.”

Rebuilding a Mission on the Ground
During 18 months of rehabilitation, Jeff began exploring the world of online business. From his hospital bed, armed with a Compaq laptop and a small Casio camera, he experimented with affiliate marketing and early YouTube strategies.
His first venture, Viper Consulting, paid homage to the nickname pilots give the F-16: The Viper.
“I didn’t have a business background,” Jeff admits. “But I knew I needed momentum and a new mission.”
Drawing on aviation principles, he adopted the concept pilots call “near rocks, far rocks.” The idea is simple: address immediate dangers first, then focus on long-term strategy.
“My comeback followed the same philosophy,” he says. “Solve urgent problems fast, then build stability and freedom.”
The Birth of Reviewly.ai
Years later, after successfully exiting a reputation management company called Reputation Loop in 2019, Jeff recognized a major flaw in the review management industry.
Many companies had overloaded their platforms with unnecessary features while failing to solve the core problem: businesses struggle to collect reviews consistently.
Reviewly.ai was launched in 2023 with a radically simplified approach.
The platform focuses on two core innovations:
• Automated Google review generation via SMS
• AI-generated review responses delivered directly to the owner’s phone
Customers can leave reviews effortlessly, while businesses can approve AI-written responses with a single tap. By eliminating friction, the system dramatically increases participation.
“Business owners don’t live in dashboards,” Jeff says. “They live on their phones.”

A Global Growth Trajectory
The strategy worked.
Within just 18 months, Reviewly.ai reached seven-figure annual recurring revenue. The platform now supports hundreds of marketing agencies and nearly 10,000 business locations worldwide, operating in more than 100 countries.
It also integrates physical review tools such as NFC tap cards and QR countertop plates, allowing customers to leave reviews instantly in real-world environments.
Unlike larger competitors such as Birdeye or Podium, Jeff intentionally kept the platform focused.
“Our mission is simple,” he says. “Generate more Google reviews and help business owners respond faster.”
Leadership Shaped by the Military
Jeff’s leadership style reflects his military background. Clear objectives, rigorous analysis, and continuous improvement are embedded into the company culture.
“We operate like a mission,” he explains. “Measure results, debrief honestly, improve constantly.”
He also prefers hiring young, coachable talent, often developing employees from internships rather than recruiting seasoned professionals who may struggle to adapt to the company’s culture.
“I’d rather train people into our mission and operating system,” he says.
Beyond building his company, Jeff invests heavily in community education, producing YouTube tutorials and demonstrations that teach businesses how to grow through online reputation strategies.

Redefining Success
Despite the rapid growth of Reviewly.ai and interest from potential acquirers, Jeff remains focused on long-term impact rather than quick exits.
“The mission right now is impact,” he says. “Build it right. Build it strong.”
For Jeff, entrepreneurship has also redefined freedom. In aviation, freedom meant mastering the skies. In business, it means mastering time.
“I want to stay active into my 70s and 80s,” he says. “Money matters, but freedom matters more.”

Family life remains central. Jeff enjoys traveling with his wife and spending time with his children, maintaining a healthy boundary between work and home.
“My wife and I decided early that we’re not compatible as business partners,” he says with a smile. “Protecting the relationship comes first.”
Still Flying, Just at a Different Altitude
Jeff Schwerdt’s journey from fighter pilot to AI entrepreneur is a testament to adaptability and determination. The cockpit may be gone, but the discipline, precision, and leadership forged in the Air Force continue to guide his mission today.
As Reviewly.ai expands across global markets, Jeff remains driven by the same mindset that once guided his missions in the sky: reduce friction, increase velocity, and execute with precision.
The aircraft may have changed, but the pilot is still flying.
